Jesus drives out the merchants – John 2:13-16

And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. – (Mat 21:12-14 KJV)

Learning from Jesus in the Scripture above, He identified the temple was a house of prayer but it has been turned into a den of thieves. The temple had two groups of legal residents, Prayer and Commerce. The louder noise in the temple was not of prayer but of commerce. For the pilgrims that came from afar, the money changers were there to help convert their money to the temple’s currency. Those selling doves were there to sell sacrificial birds to the pilgrims. Who knows, perhaps they were cheating one another. In other to restore prayer in the temple, which was its purpose, Jesus had to do something radical, He cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple. Prayer was restored in the temple and those who needed to be healed, came and were healed.

There are two legal residents in my mind, God and other people. The thoughts, words and actions of both are constantly flowing through the temple of my mind. My mind is clogged up with the intention of this residents. I am also aware of my own desires too.

Legal residency is automatic for both. In a strange unexplainable way I am obliged to seek the opinion of both before doing anything. Anytime I desire anything, I find myself asking for the opinion of my residents and I always get conflicting opinions from both. For instance, when someone does something unpleasant to me, the God resident says “forgive they that trespass against you” and the others resident says “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”. They always contradict one another. I am a carrier of opposing opinions. Present in me is light and darkness, good and bad, love and hate, oneness and separation, heaven and hell, (perhaps democrats and republicans too). One thing is certain though, I have the exclusive right to decide whose opinion influences me.

Whoever influences me has power over me. However when I am considering both opinions, I find myself becoming unstable. Conflicting opinions turn my mind into a battle ground and like all warfare, there is fear, pain, sorrow and ultimately destruction. I cannot continue to have my mind constantly conflicted. I need to realign my mind with one of the residents. Like Jesus, I need to be clear of the purpose of the temple of my mind. I need to purge my mind of all legal “stuff” and do a mind reset. I need to reset my mind to that of a healer. The God influence is love influence. Love can only heal. I need to reset to love. What is in my mind will decide my words and actions.

I invite you to take a step of faith and overturn some tables, purge from your mind “those” buying and selling and let your mind be reset to love. There are people waiting on you for healing. Your life purpose is to heal and not harm. The survival of many is dependent on your early discovery and recognition of the temple you are. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (Joh 3:17 KJV)”.

In my next blog, I would highlight to you the steps I am taking to overturn the tables in my mind. Perhaps you have ideas or have experienced overturning tables in your mind, I would like to learn from you too. Send me your comments below. You are blessed and highly favored.
